What Is the MCP Server
The MCP Server exposes ORBSIS capabilities to MCP-enabled AI clients through the Model Context Protocol. Users can state a business goal in a conversation, and the AI client can call authorized ORBSIS tools to query or perform operations. MCP does not replace the REST API: use the REST API for stable system integrations, batch processing, or backend orchestration; use MCP for natural-language queries, assisted analysis, and operations that include human confirmation.
| Dimension | REST API | MCP Server |
| Primary users | Development systems and server-side programs | AI clients and their authorized users |
| Invocation | Programs call fixed interfaces and data structures | AI clients discover and call tools through MCP |
| Authentication | API Key + HMAC-SHA256 | OAuth 2.1 Authorization Code |
| Best for | Stable integrations, automated workflows, batch jobs | Natural-language queries, assisted analysis, and operations after human confirmation |
| Permission boundary | Interface permissions associated with the API Key | Authorized user permissions + OAuth application scope + tool-level constraints |
