Card-Budget Relationship

Every virtual card (VCC) is linked to a budget. A card's spending capacity depends on its card type and the linked budget's available limit.

Shared Card​

A shared card has no independent Card Limit. Its available spend is determined directly by the linked Budget's Available Limit. Multiple shared cards can share the same budget limit.

Limited Card​

A limited card has its own Card Limit, which occupies the linked Budget's Utilized Limit even before the card has actually spent anything.

Limit Occupancy​

  • Creating a limited card and setting a Card Limit: Budget Utilized Limit increases, Budget Available Limit decreases.
  • Disabling or lowering a limited card's Card Limit: Budget Utilized Limit decreases, Budget Available Limit increases.
  • Spending on a shared card directly reduces the Budget's Available to Spend and does not affect Utilized Limit.

Understanding this relationship helps troubleshoot cases where a budget appears to have remaining limit but new cards cannot be issued or used.
